Ferry capsizes with 17 trucks, 7 motorbikes in Paturia Ghat
A ferry capsized near pontoon 5 at Paturia Terminal in Manikganj today with 14 trucks, three covered vans, and seven motorcycles.
Dino Moni Sharma, deputy director (Dhaka) of fire service confirmed the incident.
The incident occurred around 9:30am, said Zillar Rahman, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia Ghat told The Daily Star.
There is no report of casualties so far, he said.
Rescue efforts are underway. Deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, and fire service officials are present at the scene.
BIWTC Chairman Tajul Islam said, the Amanat Shah ferry capsized while anchoring at Paturia terminal, likely after hitting the pontoon.
