Don't overcharge bus passengers: Owners’ associations to members
Amid allegations of overcharging against many bus operators, two associations of bus owners today directed their members to stop charging more than the government-set rate.
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association today sent letters to all units of bus owners' associations to take immediate steps in this regard.
In the letters, Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general and general secretary of the two associations respectively, said they are receiving complaints on different routes and districts of charging more than the government-revised bus fare.
"This is against the law and is a punishable offence," he said.
Enayet asked the leaders to stay on the roads to monitor the situation. He also warned of legal action against those overcharging passengers.
The letters also stated that CNG-run buses have to stick to the previous rate.
On November 7, the government issued a gazette notification, increasing bus fare up to 28 percent.
