Dilapidated part of highway: Mymensingh-Dhaka buses on strike from tomorrow
Bus owners in four districts under Mymensingh division have decided not to operate Dhaka-bound buses from tomorrow -- demanding the dilapidated road from Salna to Tongi of Gazipur on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway be made fit for traffic.
Mymensingh District Motor Owners Association came up with the announcement in Mymensingh city this afternoon, reports our local correspondent.
Confirming the development, Mamtaz Uddin Manta, president of Mymensingh District Motor Owners Association, said the decision came from a meeting with the transport leaders of Sherpur, Mymensingh, Netrakona and Jamalpur districts this afternoon.
"It has been decided to stop public transport from the four districts for indefinite period," said the president.
Earlier on January 2, Mymensingh District Motor Owners Association and Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry decided to enforce the strike at a press conference held at Mymensingh Press Club.
It had been said in the press conference that the public transport movement is being disrupted and an additional fuel worth Tk 1.61 crore is being wasted every day due to the dilapidated condition of the road from Salna to Tongi.
