Bikes, three-wheelers not allowed on Dhaka Elevated Expressway
Three-wheelers and motorcycles will not be allowed on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, which will open to traffic partially in September this year.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said this while visiting the project site this morning.
The 11km section of expressway from the airport to Tejgaon section will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in September, Quader said.
Asked about the reason behind imposing the restriction on the three-wheelers and motorbikes, AHMS Akhter, project director of the elevated expressway, said, "This is an expressway where vehicles will ply at the speed of 80km per hour. That's why we have decided not to allow three-wheelers and motorbikes."
Vehicles will have to pay toll to ply the expressway, he said.
Sources said the expressway will have both manual and automated toll payment system.
