School student in Tangail hit by teacher for bringing “wrong book”
A class 9 student in Tangail's Gopalpur upazila was admitted to hospital after a teacher hit her in the head with a book for "bringing wrong book". The accused teacher has been served a show-cause notice.
The incident occurred in Suti VM Govt High School of the upazila yesterday, reports our local correspondent.
According to the student's classmates, teacher Rafiqul Islam scolded her at first and then hit her in the head with a book as she brought a higher math book to class instead of a general math book. The student was then forced to stand for half an hour in class. Later, when she lost consciousness, she was rushed to Gopalpur Upazila Health Complex.
"The student has a swollen wound on one side of her head," said the hospital's medical officer.
Mehedi Hasan, student's father, told The Daily Star that the teacher cannot hit his daughter no matter what. He demanded that the accused teacher be punished.
Headmaster of the school, Atiqur Rahman, said, "The incident is unfortunate. Rafiqul Islam, the accused teacher, has been served a show-cause notice."
Following the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Parvez Mallick visited the girl in the hospital and promised to take legal action against the accused teacher.
However, Officer-in-Charge of Gopalpur Police Station, Mosharraf Hossain, said, "No one has filed any complaint in this regard yet."
