Demo with jar containing Aedes mosquito larvae in front of Nagar Bhaban
Some residents of Old Dhaka today staged a demonstration, with larvae of Aedes mosquito, in front of Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka today.
Around 15-20 people, under the banner of "Old Dhaka Residents", formed a human chain to draw attention of Dhaka South City Corporation around 12pm.
They alleged that DSCC authorities failed to destroy Aedes larvae in the city, our staff correspondent reports from the spot.
At the human chain, demonstrators were seen holding a jar that contained Aedes larvae.
Alauddin, a resident of Bangshal area, said, "We are very concerned about dengue fever and we are here to draw the attention of the city corporation."
When asked about the larvae, he said, "We collected Aedes larvae from Kamrangirchar area."
Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Jurain area, said that the city corporation is not taking opinion of experts on curbing the spread of dengue seriously. Also, Aedes larvae breeding grounds are not being destroyed in Dhaka south areas, he alleged.
Sheikh Md Alamgir, councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation, rushed to the spot and said, "This demonstration is a staged drama. All the demonstrators are outsiders and former DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon is behind this."
"This drama has been staged to embarrass the current DSCC mayor," he said.
