Won't need permission to hold rallies in future: Amir Khasru
BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said there will be no need to take permission from anyone for holding programmes in the future.
"We have to continue the struggle by occupying the roads and streets," he said at a rally organised by Dhaka district BNP at Mirpur Mofid-E-Am College ground in Aminbazar area of Savar this noon.
Expressing doubts about what was done to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia while in jail, he said the characteristic of a dictator is that he or she will resort to oppressing opponents by either killing them or jailing them.
"We saw how many people they [government] killed, disappeared, and jailed. Begum Khaleda Zia is the main proof. Because, if Khaleda Zia is out, it will not be possible for this fascist government to remain in power.
"One question has arisen today, why she [Khaleda] is not being allowed to go abroad. Many people wonder if she was subjected to slow poisoning while in jail, and if she goes abroad it will come to light," he also said.
Selima Rahman, BNP's standing committee member, was present as keynote speaker at the rally.
"Begum Khaleda Zia, who restored Bangladesh's democracy, has been sent to jail with false cases and is being pushed to death. She needs to be sent abroad for treatment, but they [government] are not allowing her. But we must release her and we will send her abroad anyway. With the people, we will build a movement and press home our demand unitedly," she said.
Thousands of leaders and activists of Dhaka district BNP and its affiliate organisations gathered at the rally.
