Section 144 imposed in Ctg's Fatikchhari ahead of local BCL, AL programmes

Authorities imposed Section 144 in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram following programme announcements made by factions of local Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League at the same time and place.

Section 144 was imposed in Fatikchhari Government College and bus stand areas as law and order situation might decline, said UNO Mahinul Hasan.

According to sources, Fatikchhari Government College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Awami League-backed Upazila Parishad Chairman Abu Tayeb announced programmes on the occasion of National Mourning Day in college auditorium at 3pm today.

Section 144 was imposed for an indefinite time until further notice, the UNO said.

"The ban on rally, meeting and procession was imposed fearing decline in the law and order situation," he added.

Contacted, Mohammad Ismail, president of Fatikchhari municipality unit of AL, said the mainstream AL has no connection with these programmes.

Abu Tayeb could not be contacted for comments.
