Pre-UP polls violence: 5 injured as followers of AL, rebel candidates clash in Pabna
At least five people were injured -- one critically -- in a clash between supporters of Awami League nominated chairman candidate and rebel candidate of Vaina union parishad election in Pabna's Sujanagar upazila last night.
At least eight motorbikes used for campaign were also vandalised during the clash, our Pabna correspondenr reports quoting President of AL's Sujanagar upazila unit Abdul Wahab.
The clash started at Hemrazpur village of the union around 11:30pm yesterday when the followers of AL candidate Amin Uddin and rebel candidate Omar Faruk came face to face during campaign.
Among the five injured, Altab Hossain (30) of the village was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital early today after his condition deteriorated.
On information, police rushed the spot and brought the situation under control, said Officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman.
No cases were filed over the incident till filing of this report this noon.
Police are investigating the incident, the OC added.
