Police sue 265 BNP men in Netrakona
Police yesterday evening sued 265 BNP men in two cases filed in Netrakona's Durgapur upazila over an alleged attack on police and obstructing police in performing their duties that morning.
Sub-Inspector Sanwar Hossain and Sub-Inspector Shuvashish Ganguly filed the cases with Durgapur Police Station, said the station's Office-in-Charge Shibirul Islam.
Of the accused, 35 were named and 13 people have already been arrested, the OC told our Mymensingh correspondent.
After interrogation, they were produced before a Netrakona court this afternoon that sent them to jail, added the OC.
The detainees include ex-president of BNP Durgapur upazila unit Imam Hasan Abu Chan; convener of Durgapur municipality BNP Ataur Rahman Farid and Durgapur municipality Jubo Dal convener Abu Siddique Rukku.
Johirul Alam Bhuiyan, convener of Durgapur upazila BNP, alleged that when the BNP men were on their way to the municipality memorial to place floral wreaths on Independence Day, police stopped them around 10:00am.
At one stage, police attacked the BNP men, resulting chases and counter chases, alleged Bhuiyan. Police fired shots in the air during the incident.
Abu Chan, Rukku, and Chhatra Dal activist Shishir were injured and they were admitted to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex.
Soon after the incident, police detained seven BNP men and six others early today, said police.
