No compromise with BNP: Quader
People will resist BNP if the party resorts to violence under the guise of a movement, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday.
"If you [BNP] engage in protests, we understand, but if you incite violence, we will respond firmly. There will be no compromise."
Quader made these remarks at a "development and peace rally" organised by the Narayanganj district unit of the AL, held beside Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Kanchpur area.
"We will no longer show leniency towards BNP. Fakhrul [BNP secretary general] threatened to block Dhaka, but instead, people will react in the same manner towards BNP," he added.
"Awami League does not treat BNP as an enemy even though they do. Politically, we see them as an opposition party," Quader said.
He also urged people to remain vigilant.
Quader expressed concerns that if Sheikh Hasina is not re-elected, the country may face challenges.
He hoped that the prices of essential goods will stabilise soon.
Quader dismissed the notion of restoring a caretaker government system, asserting that even the US does not advocate this.
Meanwhile, a long tailback was seen on the road for hours following the rally.
