Local Swechchhasebak Dal leader shot dead in Bagerhat
A district Swechchhasebak Dal leader was shot dead at Basabati Padmapukur intersection in Bagerhat town last night (November 11, 2022).
The deceased, Nur-e-Alam Tanu Bhuiyan, 35, son of Abdur Rauf Bhuiyan, was a resident of Basabati area of the district, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting Inspector SM Ashraful Alam, coordinator of the media wing of Bagerhat district police.
He was shot at around 9:15pm last night. Later, he was taken to Bagerhat 250-bed district hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
He was the former general secretary of Bagerhat District Swechchhasebak Dal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Police said Tanu was shot dead by Farid, son of Tutul Sheikh of the same area.
Lopa, sister of the deceased, said, "My brother Tanu went out of the house around 9pm and went to Boga Clinic. After a while, I heard four shots in a row," she said.
She alleged that their political opponents carried out this murder.
Terming it a pre-planned murder, MA Salam, former president of Bagerhat district unit BNP, demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and their punishment.
Inspector SM Ashraful Alam, coordinator of the media wing of Bagerhat district police, said a man named Tanu Bhuiyan was shot dead by another man named Farid.
Tanu Bhuiyan was a BNP leader and an "identified drug dealer". He was accused of total eight cases under Narcotics, Explosives and Special Powers Act.
The inspector said several teams of police are working to arrest Farid who shot Tanu dead.
Farid is wanted in five cases for various crimes, including murder, the police officer informed.
