Local BNP leader reportedly attacked by AL men in Natore
Activists of Awami League allegedly attacked a BNP leader at Gurudaspur in Natore today.
Injured Abdul Aziz, president of Gurudaspur upazila unit of BNP, was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical state, reports our local correspondent quoting supporters of the BNP leader.
The incident occurred at Noyabazar area under Dharabarisha union of the upazila around 5:00pm.
Quoting eyewitnesses, Ruhul Qudus Talukdar, organising secretary of Rajshahi division BNP said, a group of people armed with sharp weapons, led by AL activist and former UP member Amirul Islam, carried out a sudden attack on Abdul Aziz at Noyabazar area while he was returning home after attending a namaz-e-janaza.
Locals rescued the BNP leader in a critical state and sent him to Gurudaspur Health Complex from where he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he said.
BNP leader Ruhul Qudus Talukdar claimed that Amirul Islam is a supporter of AL nominated chairman candidate Abdul Matin. He claimed that the attack was carried out to kill Abdul Aziz.
Meanwhile, AL nominated chairman candidate Abdul Matin said Amirul is not his supporter.
The incident might have occurred over previous enmity, he added.
Our correspondent could not reach Amirul Islam over phone despite repeated attempts.
Contacted, Md Abdul Matin, officer-in-charge of Gurudaspur Police Station, said they rushed to the spot after being informed.
Terming the incident as an election related feud, the OC said legal action would be taken against those involved in the incident.
No case was filed till filing of this report.
