Jubo League men swoop in on BNP activists in Barishal
Jubo League activists allegedly attacked BNP leaders and activists while distributing leaflets on the occasion of BNP's mass rally in Barishal today (October 31, 2022).
Six people, including a policeman, were injured in the attack, reports our Barishal correspondent.
The incident took place around 12 noon at Ichladi bus stand in Ujiirpur of Barishal.
Mir Jahidul Kabir, member secretary of BNP's metropolitan committee, said they were attacked by a procession of Ward unit of Jubo League of the upazila while distributing leaflets at Ichladi bus stand for the BNP mass rally to be held on November 5.
He alleged that the attack took place under the leadership of Jubo League Secretary Hemayet Uddin.
The injured are Monir Akhter, Mizanur Rahman, Khaleda Begum, Shafiqul Islam, Milon Khan, and police member Ishtiaq Khan.
Barisal District Awami League President Talukder Mohammad Yunus claimed that none of their party workers were involved in the attack. "We don't know who carried out the attack."
Kamrul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Ujirpur Police Station, said there was a scuffle between Awami League and BNP activists. A member of the Special Branch (DSB) of the district police was injured.
Ujirpir Upazila Health Complex doctor Rakhal Biswas said that the injured left the hospital after treatment.
Meanwhile, BNP Central Organising Secretary Bilkis Jahan Shirin said that the rally will not be stopped even if permission is not given.
However the Barishal deputy commissioner gave a verbal permission for the rally venue this evening.
