Jatiya Party will boycott polls if EVM is used
Instead of buying EVMs at a cost of around Tk 9,000 crore, the government should spend the money for the welfare of the poor.
Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader yesterday said JP would not participate in any elections if the electronic voting machine is used.
He made this comment in a memorial meeting of party's former secretary general Zia Uddin Ahmed Bablu, at a convention centre in Chattogram.
Quader said instead of buying EVMs at a cost of around Tk 9,000 crore, the government should spend the money for the welfare of the poor.
The Jatiya Party chairman said time will tell whether the party would go for alliance with any party, adding that over a year is left for the next parliamentary polls.
"At present, we have plans for nominating candidates in all the 300 constituencies," he said.
Terming Zia Uddin Ahmed Bablu an honest and dedicated leader, GM Quader urged the party activists to follow his footsteps
JP's co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud and party's secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu also spoke. Bablu died on October 2, 2021 at the age of 67.
