Govt trying to implicate us in Cumilla incident
BNP yesterday alleged that the government is trying to implicate them in the incident of "demeaning the Holy Quran" in Cumilla.
"Not only this time, rather whenever any incident takes place, the government tries to implicate BNP over those. But it's the ruling Awami League who is involved in those," said party's secretary general Mirza Fahkrul Islam Alamgir.
Fakhrul was speaking at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital. He also accused the ruling party for the recent attacks on Hindu community in Cumilla and other parts of the country.
Fakhrul said it has become AL's
tradition to catch fish in dirty water. "The government placed the Holy Qur'an in the puja mandap of Cumilla," he alleged.
The BNP leader claimed that all the criminals involved in Cumilla and Noakhali puja mandaps vandalisation belong to the ruling party.
"Without ensuring security in the temples, the government is trying to achieve political mileage of those incidents," he alleged.
Regarding the audio-clip of BNP leader Amanullah Aman over the incident that spread on the social media, Fakhrul said a vested quarter with the support from the government is doing such heinous acts.
He alleged that the ruling party is behind the communal attacks in different places of the country just to stay in the power.
"When people of the country is suffering due to price hike of daily essentials, the government is trying to divert peoples' attention through these incidents," he alleged.
Criticising the law enforcers' role, the BNP leader said, "These sorts of incidents took place due to the indifference of the law enforcers. They played the role of silent spectators. Whenever Awami League comes to power, Hindu community people come under attack."
Party's standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said the ruling party is behind the recent attacks on temples.
Saying that the Cumilla incident is planned, he demanded arrest of the officer-in-charge of the police station in the area.
