Free, fair, credible election uncertain under authoritarian govt: GM Quader
Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has said that holding a free, fair and credible election is uncertain under the authoritarian government as the administration or constitutional institutions become helpless under this government.
Quader, also deputy leader of the opposition in parliament, said the head of government has already announced that the next national election will be held under electronic voting machines (EVMs).
"Even if EVMs are not used in all the constituencies, it may be held in those constituencies where the ruling party candidates will not be able to exert influence and muscle power," he added.
The JP chief said Jatiya Party does not want a farce election.
A group of women entrepreneurs led by Nazmin Sultana Tuli, the founding president of the voluntary organization Alokito Manush Foundation, joined the Jatiya Party today, welcomed with a bouquet of flowers by GM Quader at the Jatiya Party Chairman's Banani office.
The Jatiya Party chairman said this today while welcoming them to the Jatiya Party.
GM Quader said, at present there is no democracy in the country. Administrators have been appointed in all sectors. Politicians have no authority. So, no one is accountable to the people of the country.
The Jatiya Party chairman further said that although there are ideological differences between Awami League and BNP, there are no differences in their character.
He said the two parties have created divisions among the people through corruption, misrule, and extortion.
Quader said the two political parties have repeatedly gone to power and created inequality among the people of the country.
"The people of the country have no rights, have no security. Large buildings are being constructed for the hospital, but the hospital does not have doctors, necessary equipment," he alleged.
He also said educational institutions are being set up, but there is no education there.
Quader said there is no effective initiative in drug control. There are allegations that those in power are involved in spreading drugs to destroy the nation.
