Clash at Gournadi: BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, among 120 sued
A case has been filed against more than a hundred BNP leaders and activists, including its international affairs committee member Ishraque Hossain in Barishal's Gournadi over the clash in Mahilara union early this morning (November 5, 2022).
The case was filed this evening (November 5, 2022) under the Explosive Substances Act at Gournadi Model Police Station, its Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain confirmed to our Barishal correspondent.
Ishraque has been made the main accused in the case filed naming 70 leaders and activists, including BNP leaders Badiuzzaman Mintu, Sajal Sarker, and Md Jafar of Gournadi upazila. Besides, 50-60 unnamed people have also been made accused, he said.
Mailara union Jubo League President Rasel Rari filed the case with the police facility.
Seven people have been arrested in this connection, he added.
Visiting leaders and activists of BNP reportedly carried out a counterattack on Jubo League and Chhatra League men at Mahilara of Gournadi in Barishal this morning.
The counterattack came after Jubo League and Chhatra League men attacked the motorcade of Ishraque Hossain and other BNP leaders around in the early hours today. Some 10 BNP men sustained injuries in the attack.
Locals said around 40 people, led by Mailara union Jubo League president Rasel Rari, ambushed the BNP leaders' motorcade. They reportedly vandalised seven cars and injured the visiting BNP men.
In a counterattack, the BNP men vandalised the Mahilara Modern Club and beat up some 15 leaders and activists of the Jubo League and Chhatra League.
Some of them sustained injuries to their head and were seen bleeding, according to witnesses.
