BNP's road march begins in capital

BNP today started a road march from its Nayapaltan central office demanding the release of Chairperson Khaleda Zia for advanced treatment abroad.
The march, which began around 4:30pm, is scheduled to end at the Malibagh intersection after crossing Kakrail and Shantinagar.
Speaking at a rally ahead of the march, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Khaleda must be freed immediately as she is seriously ill and needs immediate treatment.
"If something happens to her, the government will have to take full responsibility," he warned.
Fakhrul said six pro-BNP student leaders, including Dhaka University's Chhatra Dal Joint Secretary Mominul Haq, have been detained and must be freed within six hours.
Party men were seen chanting slogans at Nayapaltan since the afternoon demanding Khaleda's release and resignation of the government.
BNP has organised similar protest marches in cities, district towns, and upazilas across the country today to press home the same demand.
