Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said there are many similarities between BNP and amoeba.

"An experiment can be done on how many parties are actually in the BNP-led alliance. A Master's thesis can at least be done focusing on how many parties are in the BNP alliance," he said while responding to a question regarding BNP's one-point movement while talking to journalists at the secretariat.

"They're a lot like amoebas. The amoeba sometimes divides itself, and sometimes they grow. So, there are a lot of similarities between BNP and amoeba."

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said BNP is talking with 36 other opposition parties to take the one-point movement into the final stage.

He said they will also talk to the 12-party alliance, Ganatantra Mancha and other alliances and parties to finalise their decision on the one-point anti-government movement.

Meanwhile, Dr Hasan has condemned the recent Israeli raid on West Bank's Jenin refugee camp.

"We strongly condemn the way the Israeli military is carrying out air strikes on Palestinian civilians, resulting in loss of lives and displacement of people," the minister said.

"Human rights organisations around the world make statements all the times, or in many cases they even sell statements, but in this case they are silent. I can't find any statement from countries that sometimes sermonise other countries on human rights," he said.

Hasan said the silence of those who talk about human rights in the world is "even more regrettable."
