BNP can criticise govt because there’s democracy in the country: Quader
"BNP can criticise the government in various ways as there's democracy in the country," Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said today.
He was speaking at a press conference in his residence today.
"Awami League did not retaliate even after the assassination of the Father of the Nation and his family members in 1975 and the August 21 grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina," said the Road Transport and Bridges minister.
"BNP has no solid ground to stand on because of its negative and conspiratorial politics… They are isolated from the grassroots. They tried to uproot democracy and democratic values from the constitution," said Quader.
"Sheikh Hasina brought back democracy by overcoming many obstacles. On the other hand, BNP created obstacles in the development of democracy through their undemocratic behaviour and politics of conspiracy," added the Awami League leader.
"If BNP had played a responsible role as an opposition party, it would not have taken long for democracy to be institutionalised," he said.
Quader also remarked that BNP is now instigating communal forces against the country and the government after it had failed in its movements and in elections.
