BCC polls: GM Quader to be probed for polls rule violation
The Election Commission today asked for a probe into the alleged violation of the electoral code of conduct by Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader.
The EC directed the Barishal deputy commissioner to investigate the allegation and submit a report by tomorrow.
DC Jahangir Hossain said he received a letter in this regard.
According to media reports, Quader, also the deputy leader of the opposition in parliament, on Thursday took part in processions, meetings, and election campaigns with JP mayoral candidate Iqbal Hossain Taposh in the Barishal city polls before the allotment of symbols to candidates, read the letter.
According to the electoral code of conduct, no one can carry out electioneering prior to the allotment of symbols. It also stipulates that VIPs like cabinet members and MPs cannot take part in electioneering.
The election to the Barishal City Corporation is slated for June 12 and symbols will be allocated on May 19.
Contacted, Taposh said they held the meetings outside the electoral area and did not violate any election rules.
