Earlier in the last council, MP Abdul Hai was appointed the president and Saidul Karim Mintu the general secretary.

Party sources claim that the party's high command will decide today who will get the new district committee leadership.

The last council was held on March 25, 2015. After seven years, the district Awami League council was scheduled to be held on May 17 this year. But it was postponed by the party's high command.

Mintu said, "I have tried to organise the party by making sure all the leaders and activists work together for the betterment of the party. Now the district Awami League is in a much better position than ever before. I hope the party will keep its faith on me after seeing the success."

Hai said, "I tried to keep the party leaders and workers united and I succeeded. I will accept the leadership that the prime minister will give. If I come to the leadership again, I will try to take the party forward like before."
