AL ‘peace rally’ starts at south gate of Baitul Mukarram
Ruling Awami League has started its "peace rally" at the South Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital this afternoon.
AL leaders and activists of different units of Dhaka and its adjoining districts started thronging the rally venue since 2:00pm.
Dhaka city (south and north) unit AL started the "peace rally" at 3:40pm in an apparent bid to counter the BNP's demonstrations on the streets.
AL General Secretary and Road Transports and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is attending the rally as the chief guest.
On the other hand, BNP started a road march from Barishal to Patuakhali to realise their one-point demand -- the resignation of the government and national polls under a non-partisan administration.
The ruling party will also hold a series of programmes till October 4.
AL rolled out the series of movements, a day after BNP unveiled a series of rallies and road marches that started on September 19.
