AL ensured people's voting rights: Hasina

Awami League President Shiekh Hasina today said people of the country will never accept vote riggers.
Referring to February 15, 1996, the prime minster said people of the country did not accept vote rigging and compelled BNP to step down from the office.
Hasina came up with the remark at the inauguration of the Awami League's 22nd national council at Suhrawardy Udyan.The Awami League ensured people's voting rights, which is also a constitutional right of a citizen. "We enacted law for appointment of Election Commission. We made the whole process transparent."
"If we had a conspiracy to rig vote, then why should we enact the Election Commission formation law. If we have a plan to rig votes, we would have formed a commission like Aziz (MA Aziz Commission).
Earlier, the prime minister reached Suhrawardy Udyan around 10:20am. She inaugurated the council by hoisting the national flag and releasing a white pigeon and balloons.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader accompanied her at the time.
The premier urged the global leaders to take initiative to stop Russia-Ukraine war for the betterment of the world.
"We don't war, we don't want sanctions. We know the outcome of the war. Women and children are its worst victims. I would urge the world leaders to stop the war immediately," she said.
At the end of the speech, Hasina formally inaugurated the council.
