‘AL can not even tolerate Hero Alam’

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said the attack on Hero Alam, an independent candidate in the by-election to Dhaka-17 constituency, was a mockery of democracy.
"It has demonstrated how Awami League has become politically bankrupt. They can't even tolerate Hero Alam," he added.
Fakhrul said this while addressing a youth rally in Khulna city's Sonali Bank Chattar area.
He said the incident has also manifested once again that no fair and impartial election can be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government.
Fakhrul said Alam went to a polling station as a candidate. There was hardly any presence of voters. But the AL cadres drove his away from there. They also beat him up.
"We have only one demand: resignation of the government," he said. "Time has come to liberate the people of Bangladesh… the youth must come forward to oust this regime," he said.
"We fought the Liberation War not for this Bangladesh. The young generation has to play a leading role in protecting the country. Khaleda Zia became prime minister three times through struggle. She is still struggling to protect the country," said Fakhrul.
