The injured included Piyush Kanti Acharya, head of eastern bureau of ATN News; Jewel-Ur-Rahman, a photojournalist of Somoy TV; and Harunur Rashid, a local correspondent of Mohona TV.
According to locals, around 1,000 supporters -- led by Upazila Jubo Dal Convener, Masudul Haque Bhuiyan -- brought out a procession at 9:30am after the new convening committee of Kasba upazila and Municipality Jubo Dal was approved.
Police stopped the procession shortly after it went some distance from Adra Anantapur GPS in Upazila Sadar and a clash broke out.
Masudul said, "As a new committee has been formed, we brought out a joyous procession with thousands of leaders and activists."
"Police stopped and attacked our peaceful procession; our leaders and activists were injured," he said.
Kasba Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Bhuiyan said, Jubo Dal members brought out a procession without permission. Police later dispersed them.
Police arrested Shirajul Haque Emu, joint convener of Upazila Chhatra Dal, from the spot, the OC said.
