105 BNP men denied bail
A Dhaka court yesterday rejected bail petitions of 105 activists of BNP's front organisations in a case filed over the December 7 clash in the capital's Nayapaltan.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after the defence submitted bail petitions on Monday.
Another Dhaka court on Monday rejected bail petitions of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas, and 222 others in the same case.
During yesterday's hearing, defence told the court that their clients were not involved in the incident, but were implicated in the case and they should be granted bail.
The front organisations are: Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal.
The case was filed with Paltan Model Police Station on December 8. The clash between BNP men and police left one person dead and scores of others injured.
A total of 450 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations were arrested in the case on December 7 and produced before a Dhaka court the following day.
On December 9, the court sent them to jail rejecting their bail petitions.
The 105 activists of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechchasebak Dal were among the arrestees and sent to jail.
