Long lines of vehicles as Padma Bridge opens to traffic
This morning (June 26, 2022) saw a historic moment in Bangladesh's road communication as the much-awaited Padma Bridge opened to traffic. Long lines of cars were seen waiting to cross it.
Up to Padma Bridge's toll plazas at Mawa point, hundreds of buses, trucks, cars, and motorcycles were seen waiting on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
Vehicles have started plying through toll plazas at Mawa end of Louhajang upazila, under Munshiganj district, and Jazira end at Shariatpur from 5:50 am today.
Bangladesh Bridge Authority Engineer (Supervisor) Tofazzal Hossain has confirmed the developments to our Munshiganj correspondent.
He said vehicles have started plying on the Padma Bridge. In the morning there was pressure of vehicles. However, the situation is under control as the day progresses. The pressure of south-bound vehicles is high.
