Syed Abul Maksud’s 2nd death anniv
Today is the second death anniversary of eminent columnist, journalist and researcher Syed Abul Maksud.
Maksud breathed his last at a Dhaka hospital at the age of 74, on February 23, 2021.
Maksud was awarded the Bangla Academy Award in 1995 for his contribution to Bangla literature. The noted essayist has penned 40 books on politics, society, literature and the culture of Bangladesh. He also wrote articles on biographies and works of famous litterateurs and politicians.
Maksud was born in Elachipur village in Manikganj's Shibalaya upazila on October 23, 1946.
He started his journalism career at the weekly Nabajug, edited by M Anisuzzaman, in 1964. This paper was the mouthpiece of the Pakistan Socialist Party. Later, he worked at weekly Janata, supported by the National Awami Party, for some time. He joined Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha in mid 1970s.
On March 2, 2004, he resigned from the editorial department of the news agency. He was a regular columnist for daily Prothom Alo and wrote under columns "Sahajia Karcha" and "Bagha Tentul".
His notable works include "Juddho O Manusher Murkhota" (1988), "Gandhi, Nehru and Noakhali" (2008), "Dhakae Buddhadeb Basu" (2011), and "Rabindranather Dharmatatwa O Darshan" (2012).
