Writ seeking to stop screening of Faraaz: HC to deliver order tomorrow

The High Court tomorrow will deliver its order on a writ seeking to stop the screening and streaming of Indian movie "Faraaz" in Bangladesh.

The HC bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir Lytton set the date after holding a hearing on the petition today.

The petition was filed by Ruba Ahmed, mother of Abinta who was killed in the Holey Artisan attack on July 1, 2016.

Lawyer Ahsanul Karim told reporters that in the film, the charecter Abinta had been made to wear a dress that no educated family in a civilised society would allow. The girl's character has been degraded in the movie, the lawyer said.

Ruba Ahmed filed the petition on February 12 and pleaded the HC to issue a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why their failure to stop screening and streaming of the movie should not be declared illegal.

Deputy Attorney General Bepul Bagmar represented the state during the hearing.
