Two children drown after falling in canal
Two children drowned in a canal in Kolpolok residential area of Chattogram city yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Md Shamim, 10, son of Monir Hossen, and Rabiul Islam, 7, son of Ayub Ali, of Kolpolok residential area.
The two went missing after falling into the canal around 1:00pm while they were playing next to it, said Sadekul Rahman, inspector of Panchlaish Police Station.
In the last six years, at least seven people, including two children, have died after falling into drains and canals in the port city
On information, a team of fire service rushed to spot, rescued the duo from the canal around 1:30pm, the official said.
They were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead, he added.
The bodies were sent to the CMCH morgue for autopsy, the police official also said.
According to police, in the last six years, at least seven people, including two children, have died after falling into drains and canals in the port city.
On August 25, 2021, vegetable trader Saleh Ahmed went missing after falling into a drain in Muradpur area of the city. More than a year has passed but he has not yet been found.
Moreover, on June 30, an auto-rickshaw fell into the Chashma canal in Gate No 2 area of the city, killing two people.
