TVs flying off shelves in Ctg amid world cup fever
Newly married Shraboni Sen, a diehard Brazil supporter, convinced her husband to buy a large LED television to enjoy her favourite team's matches on the big screen. So, the couple went down to an electronics store at the port city's Jamal Khan area.
Shraboni's husband Dilip Sen, a banker by profession, is a supporter of Germany.
Talking to this correspondent on Sunday, he said this year's tournament is special for him, as he'll enjoy it with his beloved wife for the first time.
Television sales have increased in the last couple of weeks in Chattogram, thanks to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Attractive promotional offers and discounts are being rolled out by retailers, including tours to Qatar and cash discounts.
Besides, many customers patiently waited for the world cup season for buying new televisions at a discount, even though they aren't sports enthusiasts.
"I had a 24-inch television, but I felt like buying a 43-inch one. So, I was waiting for the discounts ahead of the world cup," said Tapash Barua from Chawkbazar area.
Nazrul Islam, Chattogram zonal sales manager of Transcom Electronics, said sales increased by almost 30 percent after the company declared promotional offers.
The demand for 32- and 50-inch TVs is the highest, Nazrul informed.
Electronics and home appliance company Singer also launched a campaign, under which customers will get a chance to get their TV for free by registering via SMS, said Syed Nizam Uddin, manager of a Singer outlet at Moulvi Pukur Par area.
