Sunken oil tanker salvaged after a week

An oil tanker was salvaged yesterday, seven days after it sank into the Meghna in Bhola, said officials.
Coast guards conducted the rescue operation using two barges.
Officials said they were able to pull out the tanker after a three-hour effort.
M Sahed Sattar, zonal commander (south) of Bangladesh Coast Guard, said they were working not only to salvage the vessel but also to contain the pollution engendered by the oil leak.
Abdus Salam, joint director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, told The Daily Star that they intended to take the wreckage to Narayanganj.
Sagor Nandini-02, an oil tanker that had set off from Chattogram carrying 11 lakh litres of oil, sank in Meghna after bumping into another unidentified vessel amid dense fog.
