Stop using fireworks during 31st celebrations: Petition seeks HC directive
A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ petition at the High Court seeking its directive on the government to stop the use of explosive substances including sky lanterns and fireworks during the new year celebrations in the country.
Advocate Mizanur Rahman submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the office concerned of the HC and also requested it to ask the authorities concerned of the government to give compensation to the family of Umair, a six-month old in Dhaka's Mirpur, who reportedly died after being frightened at the loud sounds of fireworks on the night of December 31, last year.
Citing the petition, Mizanur told The Daily Star that he prayed to the HC to pass necessary directives so that new years are celebrated modestly in the country without any accident.
