Son, in next room, learns of father's death after body starts decomposing
A man, in his 80s, died at home in Dhaka's Pallabi area -- unbeknown to family members -- with his elderly, unconscious wife beside him and his son in the next room, police said.
The deceased was identified as Rokonuddin Ahmed, a former teacher of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
The son, Rupom (40), came to know of his father's death only after the body started decomposing and there was odour in the house. He later informed police who recovered the body, said Shah Kamal, assistant commissioner of Pallabi Zone Police.
"We suspect the man died a day or two ago," he said.
Deceased's wife Nilufar Yeasmin, who was found unconscious next to the corpse, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital, Kamal added.
Rupom told police yesterday that he went to his parents' room two days ago. As there was bad odour in the house, he went to their room again yesterday afternoon and found the body of his father swollen, Kamal said.
Rupom, who did not complete his education at a private medical college, did not leave his room much.
The body was handed over without autopsy last night. An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this regard.
