Shakil’s 5th death anniv observed
The fifth death anniversary of Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, former special assistant to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was observed yesterday.
He died of cardiac arrest in Dhaka on December 6, 2016. He was 47.
On the occasion, family members distributed food among orphans.
District AL leaders placed floral wreaths at Shakil's grave at Mymensingh city's Bhatikeshor graveyard and offered prayers, seeking salvation of his departed soul. It also organised a meeting at the city corporation's auditorium in the afternoon.
Shakil's father advocate Johirul Hoque Khoka, also president of district AL, was present at the event.
Born on December 20, 1968, Shakil was a popular face among youths and in student politics. He was a forefront leader of the anti-autocracy students' movement in the 1980s.
Shakil had a great liking for both poetry and prose writings. He was published thrice as a poet. He also wrote a book of short stories.
