Shahjahan Mia passes away

Md Shahjahan Mia, an Awami League lawmaker from Patua-khali-1 constituency and former state minister for religious affairs, passed away yesterday morning. He was 83.

Shahjahan breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Dhaka's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University around 6:00am, said his son Tarikuzzaman, general secretary of Patuakhali municipality unit AL.

His namaj-e-janaja will be held today at 11:00am in Jhautla.

Born on January 17, 1940, Shahjahan was a lawyer by profession and served as the president of Patuakhali District AL from 1991 to 2019. He was elected lawmaker of Patuakhali-1 (Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzaganj, Dumki) with AL ticket in 1996, 2008 and 2018 national parliamentary elections.

He served as the state minister of the Ministry of Religious Affairs from 2008 to 2013. Shahjahan left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter, grandchildren and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
