Family claims husband “murdered” RU student

Police today (July 30, 2022) arrested a man in a case filed for killing his wife, who was a student of Rajshahi University (RU), over domestic dispute.
The deceased Rikta Akhter (21), was a second year student of Law department at the university, our RU correspondent reports quoting Anwar Ali Tuhin, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
She hailed from Jotpara village of Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia, he said.
The police official said the arrestee, Abdullah Ishtiaq Rabbi, is a student of Applied Mathematics department at the same university. He hails from Porahati of Harinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah.
Rikta's friends said the couple lived in Rajshahi city's Dharampur area, adjacent to the university.
Quoting her husband Rabbi, they said he found Rikta hanging from a window grill around 10 pm yesterday (July 29, 2022).
He took her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where she later died while undergoing treatment.
OC Anwar further said the victim's father filed a murder case accusing her husband Rabbi around 2 pm today. He has already been shown arrested in the case.
Quoting the case statement, the OC said there were arguments between them. Her husband often argued with her on different occasions.
In the case statement, the victim's father claimed that Rabbi, following such fights, murdered his daughter, said the police official.
After the autopsy was done, her body was being sent to her home district Kushtia, he said.
Talking to our RU correspondent, Prof Hasibul Alam Prodhan, chairman of RU Law department, said, "We demand immediate action after investigation."
