Rokia Afzal no more
Prominent entrepreneur Rokia Afzal Rahman breathed her last in the early morning today. She was 81.
The chairperson of Mediaworld Ltd, the owning company of The Daily Star, Rokia Afzal Rahman passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Mt. Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore.
She left behind three children— two daughters and a son — and five grand-children, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her death.
Her body will be flown back to Bangladesh tomorrow evening, her family members said.
Rokia's namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque at 5:00pm, following Asr prayers, on Friday. She will then be laid to rest at the Banani Graveyard.
Active in business till her demise, Rokia Afzal was also director shareholder of Mediastar, and a shareholder director of ABC Radio.
She was also a former adviser to a caretaker government.
She was founding president of the Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs.
