Rohingya repatriation: State minister Enamur hopeful of China's help

After the inhuman ordeal that the displaced Rohingyas have suffered, they deserve a safe, dignified return to their homes in Myanmar, with their citizenship rights fully restored. File Photo: Reuters

State Minister for Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman today expressed hope that China, a tested and trusted friend of Bangladesh, will help in Rohingya repatriation.

"China has stood by Bangladesh by providing support both technically and financially in building major infrastructures including Padma bridge," he said.

"We hope China will play an important role in repatriating forcefully displaced Rohingya people to Myanmar," said Enamur.

Enamur made the comments after a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen at the ministry's office at Bangladesh Secretariat, reads a press release.

The ministry has taken measures to establish National Emergency Operation Center to carry out a coordinated search and rescue operation during massive disasters such as earthquakes.

The work will begin soon with financial and technical assistance of China.
