Road crashes claimed 516 lives in June

As many as 516 people were killed and 812 others injured in 559 road crashes across the country in June, says a report of Road Safety Foundation (RSF).
The deceased include 78 women and 114 children.
The report released yesterday said 169 people were killed in 207 motorcycle accidents, which is 33.75 percent of the total deaths.
RSF collected the data from reports of nine national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.
At least 99 pedestrians were killed in road accidents, which is 19.18 percent of the total deaths. Seventy-six drivers and their assistants died, which is 14.72 percent of the deaths.
According to the RSF report, the highest 247 (44.18 percent) of the accidents occurred on regional roads, 182 (32.55 percent) on national highways, 59 (10.55 percent) on rural roads, and three (0.53 percent) on urban roads.
Meanwhile, nine people died and seven others went missing in nine river accidents while at least 18 people were killed and 11 others injured in 21 rail accidents in June.
