Registration for hajj to start tomorrow
The registration process for this year's hajj under government and private management is all set to begin tomorrow.
Hajj aspirants will have until February 23 to register for the annual pilgrimage to Makkah, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
A notice was issued by the religious affairs ministry in this regard yesterday.
Within three days of completing registration, every intended haji will be required to deliver their passports and other necessary documents to the Ashkona Hajj Office in the capital.
To complete the process, aspiring pilgrims must abide by a number of conditions, including having their passports valid till December 31, 2023.
A health examination report along with Covid, meningitis, and influenza vaccination certificates will also be required.
Subject to the moon sighting, the hajj would be performed in Saudi Arabia on June 27 this year.
On January 9, the government signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia. According to the deal, 15,000 Bangladeshis will perform hajj this year under government management while 1,12,198 under private management.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines will carry half of the hajj travellers while the two Saudi carriers will transport the rest of the pilgrims.
The Saudi government has lifted the age limit for hajj pilgrims this year, paving the way for people over 65 to go for the pilgrimage.
The minimum cost of performing hajj this year under private agencies was fixed at Tk 6.72 lakh -- which is about 1.5 lakh taka more than the last year.
Apart from this, every pilgrim will have to pay a certain amount of money for a Qurbani (sacrificial animals) coupon from the Islamic Development Bank in Saudi Arabia.
Any extra charges imposed by the Saudi government will be added to the price of the hajj package and any unused amount will be refunded.
