Puja Udjapan Parishad wants to know reason behind power cut at Cumilla mandap
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad wants to know the reason behind the power cut at Nanua Dighir Par puja mandap in Cumilla around 3:00am on October 13.
Leaders of the parishad raised the questions at a press conference held at Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka today.
"The puja mandap at Nanua Dighir Par in Cumilla was temporary. At that time between 3:00am to 4:00am the power supply was cut off. Why did this power cut happen? Did this matter come into the investigation?" asked Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee, general secretary of the parishad.
"Why was the officer-in-charge of the police station allowed to take video after taking away the Holy Quran from the idol of Hanuman and why did that video go viral? This is a big question," he said while reading out the written statement at the press conference.
Since the incident at Ramu of Cox's Bazar on September 29, 2012, over the years houses, business establishments of Hindu community have been vandalised, have come under arson attack and valuables were looted, he said.
Real culprits are spared from punishment due to blame game among political parties which is not a good thing for law and order and mutual trust, he added.
The culture of impunity and injustice are encouraging culprits and communal violence is going on for this reason, he added.
The parishad demanded renovation of all the damaged temples and houses through government fund and rehabilitating homeless Hindu people and giving proper compensation to all victims including affected businesses.
The leaders also demanded exemplary punishment to the criminals through a special tribunal. They also demanded to form a judicial probe committee to find out real information about communal violence.
The Parishad decided not to celebrate Dipaboli (Kali puja) this year in protest of the attack as they are not well after the incidents and will hold this puja (also known as Shyama Puja) in a single day and will cancel the second days' programmes during the Puja.
The Parishad also decided they would cover their faces with a black cloth on that day.
