President Abdul Hamid accepted the resignation letter of State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murad Hassan yesterday.

A gazette notification, signed by Md Kamal Hossain, secretary (coordination and reforms) of the Cabinet Secretary (routine duty), was published in this regard last night.

The resignation will come to effect immediately, reads the gazette notification.

Earlier in the day, Murad Hassan sent a letter of resignation to his office.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday asked the state minister to resign from the cabinet for his offensive and derogatory remarks on women that sparked waves of criticism.

During an interview on Facebook page NahidRains Pictures, posted on social media on Saturday, the state minister made some offensive comments on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman.

He then got embroiled in another controversy when an audio clip of a phone call between him and actor Emon and movie actress Mahi leaked and went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the High Court yesterday ordered BTRC to remove all videos and audio of Murad's derogatory comments from online platforms and social media within 24 hours.
