Posthumous organ donation: Hanif demands state honour for Sarah
Ruling Awami League MP Mahbubul Alam Hanif today demanded that the government gives state honour to Sarah Islam Aishwarya for her posthumous kidney and cornea donation.
He made this claim while participating in the discussion of the thanksgiving motion on president's speech in the parliament.
Hanif said, in a first for the country, a kidney donated by a deceased person was transplanted on the night of January 18.
A 20-year-old Sarah donated her kidneys and corneas before her death.
"We thank her family. We think Sarah should be given a state honour. She has set a precedent."
Hanif said that many people will come forward to donate the bodies of their loved ones if we show respect and gratitude to Sarah.
He said Islam or existing laws do not prohibit organ donation.
He urged the Ministry of Health to take measures in this regard.
