Police-mob clash: Probe committee formed in Chandpur
District administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate into yesterday's clash in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur that left three people dead.
Chandpur Deputy Commissioner Anjana Khan Majlish confirmed the development to a correspondent from Chandpur.
Bodies of the deceased were sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, Civil Surgeon Sakhawat Ullah said.
Three people were killed and many others were injured yesterday as mob and police clashed in Hajiganj. Violence erupted in several districts following reports of "demeaning the Holy Quran" in Cumilla.
Authorities imposed Section 144 in Hajiganj following the violence and deployed two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to restore law and order situation.
There were clashes in Cumilla, Chattogram, Kurigram and Moulvibazar, where Hindu idols and temples were vandalized, while the country observes Durga Puja.
