Attorney General AM Amin Uddin today said Mohammed Shahabuddin has been appointed president of the state legally and constitutionally and there is no scope for any confusion in this regard.

The attorney general was speaking to reporters at his office on the Supreme Court premises where he noted that the post of the president is not an office of profit.

Amin Uddin said the High Court in a judgment of a case, involving holding office of the president by then Chief Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, categorically said the post of the president is not an office of profit.

If anybody reads Articles 48, 66, 134 and 147 of the constitution, it will be clear that there is no illegality in the appointment of Mohammed Shahabuddin to the post of president, he added.

Raising questions about the appointment is unnecessary, the attorney general further said.

Shahabuddin was declared president-elect of Bangladesh on February 13.
