The baby girl breathed her last around 7:00am while being treated at Ward No: 211 of the hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.

A couple-- Apurba Robi Das and Jhinuk Das -- took the newborn to hospital after they found the baby with the injuries in her head and back, lying abandoned behind a building around 11:45pm.

She was crying, moving her limbs, said Apurba.
