New chief justice to take oath on Sept 26

Justice Obaidul Hassan will take oath as 24th chief justice on September 26.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to him at Bangabhaban, Supreme Court Registrar General Md Golam Rabbani told The Daily Star yesterday.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not be present at the new chief justice's oath taking ceremony as she will be in abroad at that time.

Hassan, a senior judge of the Appellate Division, has been appointed as the chief justice on September 12. Current Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique will retire on September 25.

The appointment will come into effect from the day he takes oath of office.
